“Crash the Car’s debut disc, They Built Houses Here, offers evocative, poetic soundscapes and songs of stark, melancholic beauty delivered with a sound like Chad VanGaalen fronting the Wooden Stars. ”
MD Stewart, FFWD
“Crash the Car features poetic lyrics set amongst the ambient hum of gentle guitar, infused with the familiar and unfamiliar sounds of instruments and found objects…live sets are filled with Cashen constantly reaching his foot to another pedal, looping his vocals, utilizing a delicate range of spontaneous sounds and meticulously layering the ethereal levels into a cohesive blend.”
Tara McCarthy, What’s Up Yukon
“There is something about Cashen’s record that harks back to (Neil) Young’s (Harvest) recording of 38 years ago….There is honesty in his voice and immediacy of music that hit me at a gut level.”
